Why Choose the Maypole VW T2 Campervan Winter Cover?
Protect your classic Type 2 with the VW T2 Campervan Winter Cover, engineered from breathable 4 ply non woven polypropylene that is UV stable and highly water resistant. The soft, non abrasive inner helps prevent paintwork scuffs during storage while the breathable construction allows moisture to escape.
Everyday usability is built in: an elasticated hem creates a tailored fit, adjustable nylon straps (double stitched for durability) secure the cover at the sides and rear, and front, rear and side reflectors improve low light visibility. Zips on both sides give convenient door access without removing the cover. A durable storage bag and clear fitting and care instructions are included.
Important
-
Do NOT attempt to fit the cover in windy conditions.
-
Do NOT use your camper van’s heating system with the cover fitted.
-
Do NOT attempt to drive your camper van with the cover fitted.
-
When opening and closing a zip, always ensure the surrounding cover is straight and not too tight — this prevents excessive strain and possible failure of the zip.
-
Do NOT over-tension straps as this may damage your cover.
-
To help prevent mould growth inside the vehicle, ensure regular ventilation and consider using a dehumidifier during long-term storage.
-
During long-term storage, regularly clean the exterior of the vehicle to minimize the risk of mould forming between the bodywork and the cover.
Before Fitting Your Cover
-
Remove, fold away, or cover any sharp or fragile objects (such as aerials, guttering, wing mirrors, awnings, and ladders) on the exterior of your camper van to avoid damage to both them and the cover.
-
Close all windows and ensure the roof is in the closed position.
-
Switch off fridges, heaters, and other appliances, and apply the handbrake.
-
Preferably, fit the cover when the exterior is dry.
-
The camper van exterior MUST be clean and free of loose particles or grit — dirt can cause scratches in windy conditions.
Fitting Your Cover
Safety Warning: Two people are required. The careful use of stepladders or a stable platform may be necessary as the cover is large and heavy. You will be working at height — always follow the stepladder/platform manufacturer’s safety instructions. Never attempt to fit the cover from the ladder; use it only to assist from the ground.
-
Open out the cover. The front section is clearly marked with a “FRONT” label.
-
Unzip the rear panel.
-
Starting at the front, work towards the rear, carefully lifting the cover over the roof and protruding objects.
-
Adjust the cover until it fits evenly all over.
-
Close the zips carefully and fasten the Velcro tabs at the bottom.
-
Secure the sides of the cover with the straps provided. Pass each strap under the camper van and attach it to the corresponding buckle on the opposite side.
-
Adjust all straps as required to ensure a snug fit, including those at the rear.
Care of Your Cover
-
Allow the cover to dry completely before storing it in the provided bag.
-
Brush or shake off loose dirt before storage or reuse.
-
Do NOT machine wash or tumble dry. Clean with a soft sponge and warm water only. Do NOT use detergent.
-
Do NOT expose the cover to sparks, flames, or other ignition sources.
Do I really need a cover for my caravan or motorhome?
If you're storing your vehicle for any extended period, especially over winter, a cover is one of the simplest ways to protect your investment. It shields against:
- Weather damage
- Grit, sap, and bird mess
- UV damage that fades paint and weakens seals
- Moisture buildup that leads to damp and mildew
Without a cover, your caravan or motorhome is exposed to the elements, even when parked.
Why is breathability so important?
Breathable covers allow moisture and condensation to escape, preventing damp, mould, and corrosion. Maypole’s 4-ply polypropylene covers are designed to:
- Let air circulate naturally
- Avoid trapped moisture under the cover
- Protect paintwork and seals from long term damage
Whether you own a caravan, campervan, or motorhome, breathability is non-negotiable for safe storage.
Will a cover scratch my paintwork or cause damage?
Not if it’s made from the right materials and fitted correctly. Look for:
- Soft, non-abrasive backing
- Elasticated hems and secure straps
- Ensure you clean surfaces and padded sharp edges before fitting
Maypole’s covers are engineered to protect, not harm.
What type of cover should I choose?
- Full Covers: Best for complete off-season protection
- Roof Only Covers Lightweight and ideal for shielding the most exposed area
- Towing Covers: Protect the front during transit (not suitable for storage)
Are these covers suitable for motorhomes and campervans too?
Yes. Maypole offer caravan, motorhome, VW & Ducato campers, and horsebox covers, with universal sizing options and zippered door access.
How do I fit the cover properly?
- Choose a dry, calm day
- Start from the roof and work down
- Use straps and elasticated hems for a snug fit
- Pad sharp fittings like aerials or ladders
- Use built-in zips for door access
Can I tow my caravan with a full winter cover?
No, never tow with a full storage cover. Use the dedicated Maypole Towing Cover for safe transit.
